Teamster Flight Attendants to Receive Industry-Leading Salary, Benefits Package

June 26, 2002

(Washington D.C.) – After three and a half years of negotiations, flight attendants at Comair have tentatively agreed to a five-year, industry-leading contract. The 680-member bargaining unit will vote on the proposed contract during the next month.

“This is an industry-leading contract,” said Ray Benning, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division. “The agreement includes salary levels well above other industry employees working on the same equipment and for similar airlines.”

Highlights of the five-year contract include

  • Between 45 and 66 percent salary growth during the terms of the agreement;
  • Salary increases that make up for the loss of profit-sharing;
  • A signing bonus of $400 per year of service;
  • A defined contribution retirement plan;
  • Improved scheduling rules; and
  • Increased sick and vacation leave.

“We have definitely set the pace for the rest of the industry,” Benning said. “We will continue leading the way.”

The Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States and Canada.
