Vending Company Employees Join Local 773

Workers Seek Strong Voice, Fair Pay

June 13, 2006

Forty-one workers at a Pennsylvania vending company, who are seeking a strong voice at work, are now members of Local 773. The workers at the Compass Group overwhelmingly voted June 1 to join the Allentown-based local.

“In addition to having a strong voice at work, these workers want to receive fair pay for the long hours they work,” said Gail “Brownie” Brown, a Local 773 business agent. “Some are hourly and some work on commission. We’re going to look at converting the commission system to hourly so that they receive overtime pay for the long hours they work.”

The workers are employed at two different vending companies—Canteen and Convenco. The Compass Group bought the two companies’ locations in Allentown and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
