Public Service Workers: Your Help is Needed to Improve Our National Rail Security

July 13, 2006

The Teamsters Rail Conference urges first responders to demand the Federal Government implement a viable security plan to help protect American lives.

Law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical providers, hazardous material handlers, physicians, nurses and trauma-center personnel would be immediately called into service in the event of a hazardous materials spill, accident or terrorist attack on the nation.

In light of the recent disasters—including the horrific train bombings in Mumbai, India, which brutally took the lives of 200 innocent people and injured nearly 800 more—a more effective rail safety plan is desperately needed in our country.

First responders are strongly encouraged to print out the appeal form, sign it and fax it to the Teamsters' Safe Rails/Secure America Campaign at 202-624-6910. Later, all of the signed appeals will be collected and delivered en mass to the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
