Merger Proposal Analyzed, Negotiations Update
December 7, 2006
The Teamsters Union and the Communications Workers of
America (CWA) are analyzing the possible takeover of Delta Air Lines by US
Airways. Should this takeover occur, the Teamsters and CWA will fight to ensure
that members' interests are protected and fully represented.
Both unions have requested additional information from US
Airways. When we receive this information, we will be in a better position to
evaluate whether this proposed takeover would be in the best interests of US
Airways CSAs.
We will provide more information as it is available.
Negotiations Update
Negotiations between Teamsters and CWA representatives and
US Airways management took place at the Teamsters Airline Division offices in
Los Angeles during the week of November 27.
The negotiations concerned Articles 5, 6 and 7 in our
collective bargaining agreement, which cover overtime distribution, flexible
scheduling and trading/swaps.
Attending on behalf of the Teamsters were West CSAs Kim
Barboro, Tony Cartwright and Jennifer Tan, as well as Airline Division
International Representative Clacy Griswold and Local 104 Business Agent Dan
Smith.
We felt positive about the meeting. One important
accomplishment from was all parties agreed that as Seamless Service provisions
are introduced across the system, Teamster-represented former America West
stations will not be forced to schedule shifts in accordance with the five-day
work week required by Article 5 of the collective bargaining agreement until
either Operational Employee Integration or mutual consent of the parties are
achieved.
The agreement also provides for a simple rotation of
overtime opportunities between East and West employees, which we believe will be
more equitable than the current procedures.
While our goal continues to be to reach overall permanent
agreement on the issues of trading, flexible scheduling and overtime this
interim agreement will protect the CSAs in the meantime. Further negotiations on
these issues will be scheduled.
