Member Concerns About Working Conditions Discussed
February 7, 2007
On February 1, the Teamsters National UPS Negotiating
Committee wrapped up two weeks of contract talks with UPS, focusing on
non-economic issues related to working conditions.
Starting on January 22, the two sides met daily from Monday
through Thursday, outside Washington, D.C. The union’s negotiators discussed a
number of issues relating to working conditions.
Many of the topics on the table during the past two weeks
were identified as priorities by members in both surveys and during an August
2006 rank-and-file meeting, including the company’s implementation of
technological changes and excessive overtime. The union’s Safety and Health
Committee also convened and exchanged proposals with the company.
“We plan on continuing with our aggressive bargaining
schedule to discuss workplace issues that concern our members. By doing this, we
can move forward and spend more time discussing economic issues such as
pensions, health and welfare,” said Ken Hall, Director of the Teamsters Parcel
and Small Package Division and co-chairman of the Negotiating Committee. |
