Carhaul Division Director to Discuss Yucaipa’s Plan to Save Allied

Fred Zuckerman Welcomes Workers To Learn More At Meetings

February 16, 2007

Teamsters Carhaul Division Director Fred Zuckerman will hit the road beginning tonight to meet with Allied Holdings workers to discuss a plan filed by the Yucaipa Cos. that will save members’ pension and health plans and preserve their union contract.

“I urge all our members at Allied to attend the meetings and to ask questions about the plan,” Zuckerman said. “I am confident that our members will agree that the Yucaipa plan is the best way to move forward so that their futures remain secure.”

Meetings in the Midwest, East Coast and South have been scheduled through March 5. Meetings will also take place in the West, but that schedule has not yet been finalized.

The three-year plan from Yucaipa requires approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Atlanta and must be ratified by Teamster members. The plan would adopt economic concessions far less drastic than proposed by Allied's present management. It will preserve members' pensions and health and welfare benefits, with no changes to work rules or contract language. The proposal also calls for the appointment of a new board of directors and CEO on the effective date of the plan.
