UPS Freight Negotiating Committee Makes Progress

Members Address Key Workplace Language

February 24, 2007

The Teamsters' UPS Freight Negotiating Committee met with UPS on February 20 and 21, and progress was made on a variety of contract provisions dealing with non-economic workplace conditions.

Meeting outside of Washington, D.C., the union and the company were able to move forward this week on contract language relating to a variety of topics. The Teamsters are negotiating a contract for the 125 drivers and dockworkers at UPS Freight in Indianapolis.

"We're hammering out contract language that will bring fairness to the workplace for UPS Freight workers in Indianapolis," said Ken Hall, Director of the Teamsters Parcel and Small Package Division who is Co-Chairman of the negotiating committee.

"After we agree to language on working conditions, we will move on to economic issues — pay, pensions and health care," said Tyson Johnson, Director of the Teamsters Freight Division. The Parcel and Small Package Division and the Freight Division are working together on the UPS Freight campaign.

"I'm confident that we will reach a strong agreement for our members," said Brian Buhle, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 135 in Indianapolis. "Our members are fortunate to have such a great team of negotiators working on their behalf."

The union's negotiating committee will resume bargaining on March 12-14.
