The Teamsters Rail Conference’s Safe Rails Secure America
campaign has been nominated for a “BENNY” award by the Business Ethics Network,
which recognizes an outstanding achievement in a campaign.
The Business Ethics Network believes that those activists
and organizations whose results are especially outstanding deserve to be
recognized by their peers. The network hopes the nominated campaigns serve as an
inspiration and model for those who follow.
For the Safe Rails Secure America campaign, the rail
conference developed a comprehensive campaign plan. Over the past two years,
legislative representatives for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and
Trainmen, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and the Teamsters
Department of Government Affairs have circulated the
High
Alert: Workers Warn of Security Gaps on Nation's Railroad report to federal-
and state-elected representatives.
In addition, the report was widely distributed to national
and local news organizations.
Currently, the U.S. Congress is considering the Rail
Security Act of 2007, which incorporates many of the recommendations in the
report.
