August 31, 2007 Rep. Bob Filner (D-CA) recently expressed concern after the government announced plans to begin allowing Mexican trucks unlimited access to U.S. highways. The congressman, who represents the entire California/Mexican border, issued the following statement: "I do not believe that President Bush has any sense for the real impact of this policy in the border region. Mexico simply does not have appropriate background checks for drivers, licensing requirements, or safety inspections for trucks. I fully support the injunction filed by the Teamsters and other concerned citizens to stop this plan!"
