Illinois School Bus Workers Say Yes to Teamsters

December 28, 2007

School bus workers in Crystal Lake, Illinois voted to join Local 731 on December 19.  The Crystal Lake school bus workers handle routes for 18 schools with students, ranging in age from 5 to 18.

“This is a great victory for the school bus workers and the Teamsters,” said Mike DiGrazia, Joint Council 25 Organizing Director. “Now that they are Teamsters, we will be able to get some needed changes made.”

The school bus workers approached the Teamsters about becoming members because of unfair and unequal treatment as well as a lack of benefits.

“We want to join the Teamsters so we can be treated with respect,” said Christine Rosa, a school bus driver for Crystal Lake for seven years. “We want to be represented with honesty and treated fairly across the board, and I know the Teamsters will do that.”
