The Teamsters Working Class Convoy for Change
concluded today in Indianapolis after an historic visit to the
Indianapolis UPS Freight terminal this morning.
General President Jim Hoffa was joined by four
Teamsters tractor-trailers as he visited Teamster worksites across
Indiana educating members about the Indiana primary on Tuesday. After
visiting Gary, Indiana on Thursday with International Vice Presidents
Pat Flynn and John Coli on the first morning, the Convoy continued to
Ft. Wayne in the afternoon.
International Vice President Walt Lytle, the
principal officer of Local 414 in Ft. Wayne, led worksite visits to a
SuperValu warehouse, the Yellow barn and USF Holland barn.
The Convoy started Friday morning at the UPS
Freight barn in Indianapolis – the first former Overnite facility to
organize and achieve a new contract with the Teamsters.
“There are 10,500 new Teamsters at UPS Freight
because of the work you have done here,” Hoffa told about 50 new
Teamsters. “I was here during the strike in 1999 and I told you then
that we would get a contract and here we are today.”
After an editorial board meeting with the
Indianapolis Star and an appearance on MSNBC, Hoffa met with UPS workers
before leading a rally at Local 135 in Indianapolis.
“We are here today because we need a change in
America,” Hoffa told more than 200 cheering union members. “Today, I say
yes we can, yes we can, yes we can!”
The Convoy finished with a worksite visit to the
Indianapois DHL facility whose
members had
ratified the new National DHL Agreement by an 88% - 12% margin.
“This was a tremendous trip,” Hoffa said following
the Convoy. “Teamsters are responding to our call for a change in
Washington.”
