On December 3, workers at Allied Waste/BFI in Stockton, California voted by more than a 2-1 margin to join Local 439. The drivers at the solid waste hauler voted 28-12 to join the Teamsters. There are 52 drivers in the bargaining unit. “The drivers are seeking a pension—they don’t have one now,” said Sam Rosas, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 439 in Stockton. The workers also want competitive wages and a strong voice at work. Local 439 organizer Pablo Barrera assisted Rosas on the campaign.
