The 36 drivers, dockworkers and maintenance workers at Cagles-Keystone, a livestock transport company in Albany, Kentucky, voted nearly two-to-one December 19 for representation by Teamsters Local 89.

The victory came after the Louisville local succeeded in gaining a Labor Board ruling granting back pay and severance to four Cagles-Keystone drivers.

Management’s anti-union efforts were overcome in large part thanks to the efforts of drivers Ed Reynolds and Brian Hanna, “who stood up to the company and spread confidence throughout the workforce,” said Kevin Evans, an organizer with Local 89.
