Building a Movement for Teamster Power
On September 24, Local 492 in Albuquerque, New Mexico hosted “Building a Movement for Teamster Power,” a member mobilization training conducted by the Teamsters Training and Development and Organizing Departments. The program was the cornerstone of Local 492’s goal to energize and mobilize its current membership.
“There is a war on workers and we at local 492 in the State of New Mexico are ready, willing and able to fight it,” said Local 492 Principal Officer Walter Maestas in his opening,
More than 40 members participated in the training that emphasized each individual’s role in the labor movement, particularly the importance of their involvement in union activities and organizing new workers.
The program also looked at obstacles plaguing all of labor and the importance of communicating personal stories in order to spread the Teamster message of unity, solidarity and power.
“Our local was proud to host the training," Maestas said. "Our members clearly appreciated all of the information and are anxious to get out there and help grow our union!"
