Byrd Appointed To FMCSA Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee
(WASHINGTON) – Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator Anne Ferro today announced the appointment of Teamsters Safety and Health Department Director LaMont Byrd to the agency’s Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC).
Established by Congress in 2006, the MCSAC is charged with providing information, advice and recommendations to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) on motor carrier safety programs and regulations.
“It’s important the union have input into policy decisions made by the agency,” Byrd said. “I look forward to working with the entire committee to help improve motor carrier safety.”
Byrd, along with seven other new appointees that work in or are in professions that impact the trucking industry, will begin their two-year terms on June 8.
“LaMont is an outstanding addition to the Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee,” said Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa. “I am confident that his years of experience and expertise in the area of motor carrier safety and how it directly impacts our members will prove invaluable to the committee.”
