  • In May, 2010, members of the Coalition of University Employees (CUE) at the University of California voted to affiliate with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. CUE represents 14,000 clerical employees, medical assistants and allied service employees at each of the 10 university campuses throughout the state of California, including UC medical centers and national laboratories.

Since the affiliation, the ties between CUE and the Teamsters have become stronger, and increasing numbers of members have become active in campus rallies and other concerted actions. Without question, the Teamsters affiliation is bringing a new solidarity and strength to University of California employees.

Dorothea Stewart, a member of CUE-Teamsters 2010 and an employee at UC San Diego talks about the value of CUE’s affiliation with the Teamsters. View video here.

Debra Williamson, a member of Teamsters Local 911, explains what being a Teamster member means to her. View video here.

  • The Teamsters have stood in solidarity with worker struggles around the world since our founding. With economic globalization, our ability to organize increasingly depends on our ability to “…build alliances with workers throughout the world.”

More than ever, Teamsters are organizing and bargaining with multi-national companies. We seek common cause with workers around the world to build social justice for all transport workers and the communities in which they live.
