On the last Saturday before the end of summer, a group of Teamsters, who are affiliated with the Graphic Communications Conference, attended a stewards training near downtown Cleveland.
Some stewards drove more than two hours to attend the training, arriving from locations throughout northern Ohio and West Virginia. The training highlighted roles and responsibilities of stewards, Weingarten Rights, and building unity at the worksite.
“We are excited to host twice-yearly trainings where each of our stewards can become full participants in the educational process of becoming an effective steward,” said Christopher Farrand, GCC 546M President. “We have a tremendous group of dedicated and committed Teamster stewards. We consider this training and development essential and very important to continue.”
Penny Lamp, a steward who traveled more than two hours, noted that she liked the open discussion.
“It was helpful to hear what other stewards are going through as well,” Lamp said. “I also now have a much better understanding of Weingarten Rights.”
Shawn D. Ellis, Central Region Training Coordinator, conducted the training on behalf of the local and was extremely impressed with the dedication of the stewards who attended.
“I must say that the participation level of the stewards was extremely energetic,” Ellis said. “It’s very encouraging to know that Teamsters members are being represented and organized by these very loyal and dedicated stewards.”
