As of May 22, 2009, sixteen states have been awarded over $14 billion in funds under the Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The money will help prevent layoffs of school employees, in addition to continuing a variety of educational programs that will benefit students. Governors have until July 1, 2009 to submit an application for funding. Please note that any unallocated money will be distributed to approved states once the deadline has passed.
