Driving Job Opportunities Through Union Grants

A Special News Bulletin from the Teamsters Public Services Division

On June 24, 2009, the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) of the U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) published a notice regarding the availability of funds under five types of federal applications: state labor market information improvement grants; energy training partnership grants; pathways out of poverty; state energy sector partnerships; and green capacity building. The purpose of these grants is to teach workers the skills required for jobs in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The ETA specifically recognizes the role unions can play in this process through national labor-management organizations, as well as through state/local partnerships with employers and workforce investment boards. Please refer to the following documents for further information regarding the amount of funds available and the deadlines for submitting each specific grant application. SGA #1 (State Labor Market Information Improvement); SGA #2 (Energy Training Partnership); SGA #3 (Pathways Out of Poverty); GSGA #4 (State Energy Sector Partnerships); and, SGA #5 (Green Capacity Building).
