GCC Printing Trades Locals Conduct Steward Trainings In Midwest

The Graphic Communications Conference has taken a proactive stance with training stewards in the Central Region. Locals in Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Battle Creek, Michigan have all conducted trainings in the last two months.

“Our stewards are in the forefront of this economic crisis that is gripping our nation,” said GCC District 3 President Steve Nobles. “It is critical that they get the proper training in how to handle representation and organizing issues in today’s climate.”

Nearly 75 stewards attended the three trainings that covered a number of key issues, the most important being the primary role and responsibilities of a GCC/IBT steward at the worksite.

“The level of participation that we see from stewards throughout the Midwest is incredible,” said GCC/IBT Staff Representative Dan Courtney. “These stewards are fantastic in their dedication and enthusiasm to representing our membership in the printing trades industry.”

“Each of the trainings sessions has seen active participation on the part of the stewards,” said Shawn Ellis, Central Region Training Coordinator for the IBT Training and Development Department. “These committed professionals are always seeking more knowledge to better represent their members. It is heartening to see.”
