Local 251 Adds More Than 170 New Members

December 19, 2002

On December 18, city workers in Cranston, Rhode Island, voted 158-14 to join Local 251 in East Providence, Rhode Island.

The Cranston city employees work as bus drivers, secretaries, administrative personnel, and staff members in the parks and recreation departments.

“This was a good victory, a good campaign, and a great group of new members,” said Stu Mundy, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 251. “The political power of the Teamsters was a big factor because it is so important when it comes to the public sector.”

The new members are now eligible to participate in the New England Teamsters Pension Fund.
