Hoffa Honors Missouri Teamsters At The Joint Council 13 100-Year Anniversary Celebration
(ST. LOUIS) – General President Jim Hoffa joined Teamsters from across the state of Missouri on Saturday to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Joint Council 13 in St. Louis.
“Joint Council 13 is a strong advocate for all our members in Missouri,” Hoffa said. “The Joint Council works tirelessly on behalf of Teamster families to bring the concerns of the middle class to state legislators and to stand up to employers. I am honored to be here to take part in this 100th-year anniversary.”
Joint Council President Marvin Kropp said that during a tough economy, the security and benefits provided by a Teamster contract are priceless. And despite the econony, Teamster membership is growing in St. Louis, he said.
“We try to get as much bang for our buck as we can for our members, whether it’s in the form of pension increases or health and welfare or wage increases,” Kropp said.
More than 500 Teamster members and their families attended the all-day event held at the Teamster camp in Pevely, Mo. Activities such as swimming, and a picnic were enjoyed by all.
Other speakers at the celebration included St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay; State Treasurer Clint Zweifel, a member of Teamsters Local 688 in St. Louis; U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay; and Attorney General Chris Koster.
During the 28th National Convention in June, Joint Council 13 and three other Teamster Joint Councils were honored for a century of service to working men and women. They are Joint Council 25, Joint Council 7 and Joint Council 10.
