Hoffa Meets with German Union Official

Pair Discusses Organizing, Bargaining Strategies

December 12, 2001

Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa met with Rolf Buttner, Vice President for postal, shipping and logistical services for Verdi, a three-million member union in Germany.

Buttner’s union represents workers at UPS, FedEx and DHL. The two discussed cooperation between Verdi and the Teamsters and coordinating international strategies for organizing and bargaining with multinational employers such as UPS.

“German employees of UPS face many of the same struggles that their counterparts in the United States face,” Hoffa said. “Coordinating our efforts with our union friends overseas is a further step in the right direction.”
