Jobs on the Agenda for Hoffa, Miller

Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa told a key lawmaker on Feb. 4 that the Teamsters would strongly support legislation that will create new jobs and preserve existing jobs.

Hoffa held the discussion with California Rep. George Miller, powerful chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor, in the Capitol.

Miller acknowledged that relief for retirement plans will help alleviate the jobs crisis. Companies that employ hundreds of thousands of workers may not be able to afford their required contributions to their pension plans. Ultimately, jobs may be cut because of pension obligations.

Hoffa pointed out that our country cannot afford further job loss at a time when the unemployment rate is at the highest rate since the Great Depression. He said that working families deserve legislation that creates and save jobs.
