Kinard Joins Teamsters to Lead Union's Federal Legislation, Regulation Efforts
(Washington, D.C.) – The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is pleased to announce that Lisa Kinard, formerly Director of Public Policy and Government Relations for Goodwill Industries International Inc., has joined the Teamsters Union as Director of the Department of Federal Legislation and Regulation.
In her new capacity, Kinard will lead federal legislative and regulatory efforts for the Teamsters, one of the largest unions in the nation, with 1.4 million members who work in industries across every sector of the economy.
“Lisa brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience and leadership to the Teamsters Union,” said Jim Hoffa, Teamsters General President. “She is a valuable addition to our team and will be a great resource for our members, elected and government officials and also the media.”
At Goodwill Industries, the sixth-largest non-profit in the country, Kinard managed a staff of public policy professionals and outside consultants while strategically developing the organization’s legislative and regulatory agendas, including labor policy and workforce development. She also managed all lobbying compliance activities and coordinated grassroots activities with local affiliates from around the country.
Among her many titles in Washington, Kinard served as legislative assistant/counsel to U.S. Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski, D-Md., where she handled labor issues and staffed the senator on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. She also worked as legislative assistant to former Chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, U.S. Rep. Augustus F. Hawkins, D-Calif. Kinard earned a law degree from the University of Maryland Law School.
