Rinker Construction Drivers, Mechanics Sign Six-Year Agreement

December 24, 2003

Approximately 800 drivers and mechanics at Rinker Construction at multiple Phoenix, Arizona locations are celebrating a contract victory this holiday season. The Local 104 members signed a six-year contract that, among other benefits, replaces a pitiful company pension plan with the Western Conference of Teamsters pension program.

“The pension language covers all compensable hours and includes PEER/84 early retirement language,” said Andy Marshall, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 104. “That’s a big gain for these workers.”

The contract features an economic package that provides a total of $4.10 in increases over the lifetime of the agreement, broken down as follows:

  • A $1.20 increase the first year;
  • A $.60 increase during each of the second through fourth years; and
  • A $.55 increase during each of the final two years of the contract.

Other contract highlights include a Teamster Blue Cross-Blue Shield plan fully paid for by the company that provides 95-5 indemnity coverage for medical, dental and vision costs for each worker and their family members, and also provides for retiree coverage.

“This Teamster healthcare plan ranks among the best in the country,” Marshall said.
