Long Island Bus Workers File for Teamster Election
Workers with the Baumann transportation companies in Long Island, New York—Baumann, Acme, Brookset and Alert—have filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board. A date will be forthcoming for the nearly 2,000 bus workers who are uniting for respect, fair pay and affordable, quality health care. As part of the campaign to join Teamsters Local 1205, the workers are coming together for an important rally on October 17 with Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa, Teamster school bus workers, and community and political leaders. More than 40 such leaders, including New York Governor David Paterson; the Long Island Democratic Congressional delegation; and the Long Island Federation of Labor have sent letters to the Baumanns in support of the workers’ rights to form their union.
