Maintenance Workers at Marshalls Bridgewater Overwhelmingly Approve First-Ever Contract

Maintenance workers at Marshalls Bridgewater Merchants Inc., in Bridgewater, Virginia, have overwhelmingly approved their first-ever contract by 93 percent. The vote took place August 2nd.

The 16 maintenance workers are members of Teamsters Local 29 in Waynesboro, Virginia. They joined the Teamsters earlier this year.

John Farrish, Principal Officer and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 29, said the negotiating team worked hard to get the best contract for these workers. Marshalls Bridgewater is a warehouse that supplies Marshalls and T.J. Maxx stores with merchandise.

Danny Crouch, President/Business Agent of Local 29, was on the negotiating team and said the first contract contains many highlights for the workers.

The workers will see a 5 percent decrease in the amount of health care costs they have to pay.

“That is extra money in their pockets,” Crouch said.

The three-year contract also guarantees wage increases of 50 cents per year, check off, seniority, grievance procedures, protection from subcontracting, a job bidding procedure, 112 hours of holiday pay, overtime, and double time after 12 hours.
