Motor City Casino Workers Have Tentative Agreement
October 19, 2007
On Monday, October 22, Teamsters working at the Motor City Casino in Detroit will soon vote on a new four-year contract which features wage increases and additional personal days. Local 372 in Detroit represents employees in the transportation, wardrobe, warehouse and retail departments of the casino. In addition, Teamster members work as guest service agents. In all, there are 180 Teamsters working at the Motor City Casino. The negotiators were able to prevent the employer from increasing the amount of part-time jobs at the casino from 15 to 25 percent. Maintaining a strong, full-time workforce at Motor City was a primary concern during the negotiations process. Teamsters, along with 1,600 other union members from the Carpenters Union, United Auto Workers, UNITE HERE, and the Operating Engineers will vote on the contract. All of the labor unions are united under the Detroit Casino Council.
