Official Statement Regarding Arrests in Connection with Soto Murder

While the Teamsters are eager for a timely and just disposition of the murder of Gilberto Soto, we are withholding judgment of the recent arrest of suspects in the case.

Last week while the Teamster-led delegation was in El Salvador meeting with government officials, Beatrice Alamanni de Carrillo, the Ombudswoman for Human Rights, told us that the police were preventing her from monitoring the investigation and reviewing the evidence including the chain of custody of the bullets and the handgun that were recovered. Without transparency, we remain skeptical of the government's case thus far.
