Pittsburgh Parking Authority Workers Back at Work
December 21, 2005
Late last week, an agreement was reached with between striking parking authority workers, who are members of Local 926 and the Pittsburgh Parking Authority. The strike, which began 18 weeks ago, was mainly due to management's proposal for a significant rise in health care costs."The new contract is a victory for our members," said Charlie Byrnes, President of Local 926 in Pittsburgh. In October, the Teamsters rallied outside the downtown headquarters of the Pittsburgh Parking Authority. The resulting snarled traffic bolstered the spirits of the workers who chanted and carried signs which read, "This Garage is FULL of Injustice and Greed."The Teamsters work as parking garage attendants at garages throughout the city. "We've worked hard to make the city of Pittsburgh a vibrant place to visit and conduct business," Byrnes said. "We've fought for a good contract for all our members."The new agreement is for a one-year term.
