Stewards Gather for Training in Great Falls, Montana

On September 19, Local 2 in Great Falls, Montana hosted a stewards training seminar in which more than 50 stewards and members attended. Bill Munger, Eastern Region Training Coordinator, and Karin Jones, Communications and Outreach Coordinator for the Teamsters Training and Development Department, conducted the program.

Mark Brandt, Secretary-Treasurer of the local, welcomed the participants and thanked them for taking the time to attend.

"You are on the front line of our union,” Brandt said. “Education is critical to your success.”

The seminar focused on Teamster history, the roles and responsibilities of the Teamster steward and the grievance process. The seminar also included a presentation by Jack Peasley from the Teamsters Department of Field and Political Action on the importance of contributing to DRIVE, being involved in politics, and an update on current issues.

“Being a new steward, all of the information provided was invaluable,” said Tianna Workman. “It was also wonderful to learn about the proud history of the Teamsters.”

“The entire seminar was great. I found the exercise with the mock contract very useful as it provided me with a lot of new information and skills,” said Sherman Baker. “I also was proud of our local union as were all the stewards who attended the program.”
