Teamsters Election Certified, Hoffa Unity Slate Victory Official
December 14, 2001
(Washington, D.C.) – The re-election of International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa and the Hoffa Unity Slate was certified today by the union’s Election Administrator. The certification brings to close the fourth democratic election in Teamsters history. The Hoffa Unity Slate won five-year terms to all positions on the union’s General Executive Board by a two-to-one margin. “The election gives my administration a mandate to build the Teamsters Union through aggressive organizing and intense bargaining,” Hoffa said. “The election has ended, but the journey to rebuild this great union has just begun.” In the next five years, the union will negotiate all of its national contracts and battle the ever-increasing anti-union hostility of the U.S. Congress and state legislatures. The union’s largest contract, with UPS, expires on July 31, 2002. The National Master Freight Agreement expires on March 30, 2003. “This victory sends a powerful message to employers and politicians that the Teamsters Union is united and strong,” Hoffa continued. “The Teamsters Union will be the force for working families. We will not stand idly by while the rights of working families are under attack.” Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States and Canada.
