(SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va.) – Local 175 Teamsters have voted unanimously to endorse State Treasurer John Perdue for West Virginia governor, the first major endorsement in the upcoming special election, Local 175 President and International Vice President Ken Hall announced today.

The endorsement, made official today, came Saturday in a unanimous vote at Local 175’s regular monthly meeting.

“John has been a good steward of West Virginia’s finances as state treasurer for 18 years,” Hall said. “Our great state is one of only three in the country that has operated in the black during most of the recent recession. I can think of no better person to lead our state as we confront future challenges head on, including creating good-paying jobs with benefits for hardworking West Virginians who strive to provide for their families’ futures.”

Perdue also has vast knowledge of the state budget. As an assistant to former Gov. Gaston Caperton, he gained important, first-hand knowledge about the inner workings of the governor’s office. He understands that West Virginia’s No. 1 priority is to create jobs. He supports small-business owners, which make up about 90 percent of the state’s economy. He also understands the importance of attracting new business and industry to West Virginia.

“But most importantly, John knows the daily struggles facing middle-class families in our state and he has and will remain an unwavering supporter of working people in West Virginia,” Hall said.
