Teamsters Honor UFCW Picket Extension

Today, I am announcing an unprecedented special authorization to provide financial assistance to Teamsters honoring picket lines erected by the United Food and Commercial Workers at grocery distribution centers in Southern California.

Even though the grocery clerks have waged a very effective strike with strong consumer support, after six weeks, they felt they needed to take the extra step of asking for our support at the distribution centers of Vons/Safeway, Ralphs/Kroger and Albertsons. We are proud to stand in solidarity with our UFCW brothers and sisters.

This unprecedented action is reflective of the importance of the strike, which is a prominent battleground in the struggle to hold the line against efforts by businesses everywhere to slash their workers’ health care benefits. I want to thank you for proving once again that for the Teamsters, an injury to one is an injury to all.
