Teamsters Reach Tentative Agreement With First Student at Four Yards
(Jackson, MS)—The Teamsters reached a tentative agreement today with First Student at Hinds, Clay, Yazoo and Madison counties that will result in higher wages, paid holidays and life insurance, said W.C. “Willie” Smith, President of Teamsters Local 891.
About 350 First Student workers at the four yards are represented by Local 891. They will meet and vote to ratify the four-year contract next week.
Workers at Hinds County went on strike Thursday morning, and will return to work Monday morning. Workers in Yazoo, Madison and Clay counties remained on the job since those counties had indicated they would work with the Teamsters and First Student to reach an agreement.
“The workers in Hinds County look forward to going back to work so they can continue the good work they do for our children,” Smith said. “All the workers are very pleased with the gains they have made to make their lives better.”
