U.S. Delegation to El Salvador to Meet With Government Officials Regarding Gilberto Soto Investigation

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez to Join Union Officers in Delegation

(Washington, D.C.) – A 10-person delegation will travel to San Salvador, El Salvador on Tuesday, November 30, to meet with Salvadoran government representatives to discuss the ongoing investigation into the murder of Teamster Representative Gilberto Soto on Nov. 5, in Usulután.

Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (D-Calif.) will join the delegation that will meet with the Salvadoran Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Governance, Minister of Labor, Director of the National Civilian Police (PNC) and the Ambassador of El Salvador to the U.S. on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Sánchez was one of 72 members of Congress to sign the attached Nov. 23 letter to Secretary of State Colin Powell authored by Congressmen James P. McGovern (D-Mass.) and Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) asking him to ensure that sufficient U.S. resources and personnel be made available to the Salvadoran government to aid in the investigation of Mr. Soto’s murder.

The delegation, comprised of Sánchez and union officials, will then travel to Soto’s hometown of Usulután to meet with his family. There, the delegation will meet with the mayor of Usulután and human rights representatives.
