Workers in El Paso Now Belong to Local 745

December 25, 2004

By a margin of nearly 5-1, workers at an independent cartage contractor for DHL voted to join Local 745 in Dallas.

On December 17, the workers at Mountain Express in Humble, Texas, which operates in El Paso, voted 32-7 to join the Teamsters. There are 41 workers in the bargaining unit.

“The workers are seeking fair wages and benefits—right now they don’t get any benefits,” said Darryl McKenzie, an assistant business agent at Local 745. “The workers also want fair and consistent work rules.”

Assisting McKenzie with the campaign were Clifford Haney, who is a volunteer organizer; Ray Padilla, a Teamster retiree; and a worker from DHL-Gateway in Miami, Alex Saumell, who is a member of Local 390 in Miami.
