The
men and women who work at United Parcel Service provide an essential service
that helps keep the American economy vital. Throughout the nation and around
the world, businesses and households alike have come to depend on the
reliability and efficiency of those who don the familiar brown uniform.
These hardworking Teamsters expect and deserve the best representation
possible in order to achieve good contracts, an efficient grievance process
and a safe workplace. That is why I made it a top priority of my
administration to secure for UPS workers the respect and dignity on the job
to which they are entitled.
A contract represents a solemn pledge that commits all parties to keep
their promises. I will continue to spare no effort to ensure that management
keeps its end of the bargain. This is how I intend to keep my own promise to
our members.
I will also insist on the respect and dignity on the job that is owed to
every UPS worker—respect that will serve us well as we carry out and enforce
the rights and provisions contained in the current agreement.
Fraternally,
James P. Hoffa
General President
