Grasping the full
scope of DHL requires a worldwide perspective.
DHL is owned by
Deutsche Post World Net, a Germany-based multinational, and operates around
the globe. Here in the U.S., the company operates a number of subsidiaries,
including DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding. The company also contracts
shipping to two air cargo airlines, ABX Air and ASTAR.
One trait that is
consistent throughout the DHL system here in the U.S. is that some 12,500
workers are members of the Teamsters Union. For those who are Teamsters,
they negotiate as equals with management for contracts that secure pay rates
and work rules.
Throughout the
system, thousands more are working to become Teamsters, seeking the power of
being members of the strongest union in the DHL system.
