Teamsters National Black Caucus

   A Commitment to Diversity

“The Teamsters National Black Caucus (TNBC) held its 32nd Educational Conference from August 12-19 in Kansas City, Missouri.

"We had a great turnout of Teamsters from all around the country. Education, organizing and politics were just some of the issues discussed. Community involvement is an important issue and one the St. Louis Chapter brought home after the conference," said Roland Lewis, Recording Secretary for Local 688 in St. Louis.

"We decided to get our name out in the community so we voted to adopt a portion of Interstate 70, a well-traveled Interstate linking the central portion of the country," Lewis continued. "Travelers commuting to St. Louis will now see our sign and know we are involved in the community. Our mission is to continue organizing new members and to assist the locals in our area in making a difference to working families’ lives using the tools and information from the TNBC leadership and the Teamsters Union.”

Founded in 1975, the TNBC developed with a mission to organize the unorganized and increase black member participation within all levels of the Teamsters. The organization is also dedicated to upholding the principals of the labor movement.
